Make a zine with Seleena Daye!
All week long we’ve hosted zine making workshops as part of our Message in a Bottle project.
These workshops are a collaboration with Queer Newham and prioritise LGBTQIA+ residents of Newham and East London although are free for anyone to attend. Now that the workshops have ended we wanted to find a way to encourage more people to join and to make along at home.
We asked the amazing Seleena Daye to provide an online workshop which was free to watch and access at anytime. Whether you’ve made zines before or whether you aren’t sure what a zine is, Seleena’s workshop is accessible to everyone and will hopefully give you the inspiration to make something for our upcoming publication and exhibition which launches in December.
You can watch Seleena’s youtube tutorial here:
If you’d like to make a zine, submit a piece of writing, or make some art for the Message in a Bottle project but need some materials to get going then order one of our free zine making kits.
The zine making kits are free to post to anyone in the UK. We have just 25 of these kits left and they include, paper, scissors, glue, rubber stamps, collage paper, ephemera, tape, and a step by step instruction guide.
With Seleena’s video workshop and your free resource pack we hope you can make along at home and explore the themes of Message in a Bottle. Zines can be a lifeline, a connection, a sense of community. They can be tools of activism, ways of sharing important information, and can also be used to reject traditional forms of publishing. We hope that whatever you make you will submit to our Message in a Bottle project. The deadline to send us your work is November 23rd.
Your work will then be featured in our collaborate published zine and will also be included in our exhibition launching in December. Send all jpgs, pdfs, word docs to queerzinelibrary@gmail.com
